The signs are here.

The Cormorants are massing. A flock of several hundred flew west along the coast of the island last week.

I heard my first training flight of Canada geese this morning. This is when several families get together with the first-year birds and fly around in v-formation seemingly for the practice and fun of flying. Lessons in group co-operation are being passed along to the young birds.

Grackles have almost gone from our bird feeder - only 2 left and our bird seed consumption has dropped dramatically.

No massing of swallows yet.

No massing of loons in the channel yet.

But the signs are here.

Sigh.

    I’ll sigh with you. I’m trying to learn to appreciate what comes instead of stubbornly resisting it. I think I’ve come a long way from kicking and screaming.:)

    I like the fall for Atlantic salmon fishing but other than that I really would like summer to stay here a bit longer.

    I haven’t seen Canadian geese in any numbers since I lived in Ontario. I do see a few dozen a year here in New Brunswick but we used to see hundreds of them flying over head, so close to the ground you could almost count their feathers. Beautiful.

    We haven’t had anything but rain for the entire month of August so I feel like I got robbed of my summer, although the yard sure looks healthy.

    @James Mann -
    We have a few geese we can ship you… And rain is a constant this summer here too. Last night’s light show of lightning was a superb show of Ma Nature getting angry. 8)
