Growing Lavender

Here’s an interview I did with Derek Ryles of Prince Edward County Lavender Farm and B&B. He obviously knows and likes his lavender. You can visit his website at http://www.peclavender.com/ If you’re in the eastern Ontario region you can even pick up a few plants for your collection (I did) :-)

Lavender requires full sun, excellent drainage and proper pruning to make it grow successfully. I’ve written about lavender here and have the ebook here.

Sorry there’s no captions to this one – it’s really difficult to summarize the techniques in captions that Derek is telling us about. One important point to note is that he prunes his lavender in the fall rather than in the spring and this can be important in his climate where he’s looking at huge snow dumps to break down the plants.

The interview is also several minutes long but this is good stuff from a commercial grower and well worth the time if you want to succeed with this plant.
