Container Gardens

Here are two distinct container gardens – the pics were taken at Montrose Gardens in North Carolina. A fine, established garden – it was a delight to wander around. And while the gardens were tremendous and the plant choices interesting, the container gardens were fantastic. I hope you agree (and I expect you to do something similar next summer in your own gardens) :-)

Truly outstanding containers. Of course I could be a bit biased as chartreuse is the color I crave these days.

Sigh … Will await the prepaid shipment of one of those urns.

@Lorra – it’s on its way…. Oh wait – that one has my name on it – yours is coming next week :-)

Any ideas what plants are in the top one? I made the ‘mistake’ of showing a friend, and now she wants me to help her replicate it next year. Help!

I’m looking at the original (the Net stuff gets dumbed down to fit) and it looks like the top purple plant is a Japanese maple, spikes are dracaena, purple trailing foliage looks like coleus or maybe perilla (bet on coleus), lime green trailer is sweet potato vine, green around base of maple are multiple plants – and tough to make out. Looks like a bit of fern, a bit of (now non-blooming gone to seed) petunia and maybe something else unidentified. But that would be the essence of it all. The fun part would be to substitute something for these within your budget. In any case, it makes a perfect example of planting things (like the maple) that may not normally be associated with a container. Good luck! (and that’s what friends are for – helping others create great containers – among other things) :-)

Thanks for the help. Now I’m saving the picture and identification info for next year. :-)
